Premise Health, the largest direct healthcare company serving unions and large employers, in partnership with the National Coalition of Labor (NCL)<\/a>, Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council (MACRC)<\/a>, Midwest Operating Engineers Fringe Benefit Funds<\/a> (MOE), and Teamsters Local 301 Health and Welfare Fund<\/a>, recently completed an expansion of five nearsite wellness centers in the Chicagoland area, adding physical therapy and chiropractic care.<\/p>\n

The expansion comes just one year after the completion of the partnership\u2019s multi-site initiative<\/a> to establish sites in Northbrook, Grayslake, Elgin, Joliet, and Utica, Illinois. The Premise-operated nearsite wellness centers now provide physical therapy<\/a> and chiropractic care<\/a> at no cost to more than 150,000 union members and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe wellbeing of Local 150 families is at the heart of our Health Center program, and everything is done with that in mind,\u201d said Tom Bernstein, administrative manager, MOE. \u201cIn keeping with that goal, we have expanded our partnership with Premise to include physical therapy and chiropractic care. These enhancements reflect our ongoing commitment to comprehensive health for members and their families so they can continue to meet the demands of the work they take pride in.\u201d<\/p>\n

As reported in PubMed<\/a> and by the World Health Organization<\/a>, back, neck, and joint pain are leading causes of doctor\u2019s visits and work absences. Premise\u2019s physical therapy and chiropractic care allows members and their families to address conditions such as shoulder, neck, and back pain, muscle and joint pain, sprains, pre- and post-surgical conditions, and neuromusculoskeletal conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cA career as a union carpenter can undoubtedly take a physical toll on one\u2019s body,\u201d said Kristina Guastaferri, executive director, MACRC. \u201cIn partnership with Premise Health, our goal is to alleviate this physical stress by providing education, exercise, care, and rehabilitation to those working in the field. We are thrilled to announce the addition of physical therapy and chiropractic care as another step forward in achieving our goal of offering a caring and comprehensive healthcare experience for carpenters and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Members will receive on-site treatment from a licensed physical therapist or chiropractor who provides personalized treatment and exercise plans, goal setting resources, and on-going education regarding injury prevention and independent home exercises. With existing access to other high-quality services such as primary care<\/a>, pharmacy services<\/a>, and behavioral health<\/a>, members will benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach provided by a fully integrated collaborative care team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of our approach to musculoskeletal care is to not just address acute incidents, but to deliver care that is preventative in nature,\u201d says Jon Leizman, chief medical officer, Premise. \u201cOur shared goals are for union members to be able to work as long as they desire and to comfortably live active, pain-free lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat that means is we strive to address the root causes of musculoskeletal pain and provide our members with the tools and support they need to feel confident in achieving better health. We aim to empower our members to proactively manage or even eliminate the main source of pain and discomfort, and to appropriately reach peak physical performance relative to their personal goals and stage of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Chicagoland area, Premise also operates four additional dedicated health centers with MOE, MACRC, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134<\/a>, the latter of which are also members of the Northbrook wellness center.
